Ohio Public Health Practitioners

Welcome to the Resources for Public Health Practitioners Guide!

Community health issues are often a product of conditions in multiple sectors and require innovative strategies and solutions. You might be working toward a goal of shifting health metrics on a certain issue or want to be sure you are meeting accreditation requirements for your agency. Public health practitioners use existing tools and practices to help design comprehensive health strategies, respond to emerging issues, and to evaluate the efficacy of current programs.

This guide contains a compilation of resources to help those working in public health in Ohio find the information they need to plan evidence-based interventions, communicate their plan, and build support to get started.

Learning Outcomes

This guide is designed to assist public health practitioners in Ohio with addressing complex health issues in their community through the following learning outcomes:

  • Recognize the importance of evidence-based decision-making in public health 
  • Describe how and where to find publications on a topic of interest​
  • Understand best practices for planning, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based public health interventions
  • Identify online resources that provide continuing education and training
  • Utilize population data and research to build support for public health interventions in the community
