Recomended Databases

The following are some of the recommended databases to include in your OT Capstone project:

PubMed This link opens in a new window
Provided by the US National Library of Medicine, PubMed is a freely available database containing more than 26 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life sciences journals, and online books.
CINAHL This link opens in a new window
The Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature contains information published on nursing and allied health fields including occupational therapy. This is a good database to include in virtually all OT searches.
PsycINFO This link opens in a new window
Provides access to the international literature in psychology and material relevant to psychology in the related disciplines of education, medicine, business, sociology, psychiatry, and communications. If your topic could be discussed in the psychology literature, such as quality of life, motivational psychology, or services provided for those with developmental disabilities, then PsycINFO is a great resource to include.

The world's largest source of education information, containing abstracts of documents and journal articles on education research and practice. This is a great resource for articles related to educational or school settings, as well as services provided to those with IDD or Autism.
SPORTDiscus This link opens in a new window
Covers topics such as sports medicine, exercise physiology, biomechanics, and physical fitness.

Supplementary Databases

Depending on the topic of your review and how comprehensive you want to be, you may also need to search in other supplementary databases. Below are some other databases to consider and that are typically searched in the health sciences.

Embase This link opens in a new window
A highly versatile, multipurpose and up-to-date database covering the most important international biomedical literature from 1947 to the present day. Embase has a lot of overlap with PubMed, but it also contains a decent chunk of unique content. As such, including it in your search can make it more comprehensive.
Scopus This link opens in a new window
Scopus is a large, inter-disciplinary database of research literature and quality web sources in the medical, scientific, technical, social sciences, and arts and humanities fields. Since it covers such a wide range of topics, it can locate items that may not be in traditional health science databases.
Web of Science Core Collection This link opens in a new window
Web of Science Core Collection is another large, inter-disciplinary database that includes a wide variety of subjects. It is similar to Scopus, but contains some unique content as well.
Cochrane Library This link opens in a new window
A collection of databases that contain different types of high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making. If you are looking for information on specific health interventions, this can be a good resource to include.
SocINDEX This link opens in a new window
Index, abstracts, and full text for publications in sociology. If your topic relates to any social determinants of health, you may want to search this database as well.
