Sources for Sample Plans

While the particulars of data management and sharing will be unique to each project, good examples can be helpful when trying to understand policy requirements.

Examples using the NIH DMS template:
These plans are for demonstration purposes only and were not evaluated as part of a competitive awards process.

NIH Sample Plans
Example plans issued by specific institutes and centers of the NIH, including NIMH, NHGR, and NCHD. These plans illustrate possible approaches to plan requirements, but are not intended as template language. Because they are prepared by ICOs, they may include more specific expectations than are required by the NIH-wide policy.

Winner of the FASEB DataWorks data management plan challenge, a competition co-sponsored by the NIH this year as an opportunity for researchers to practice using the 2023 NIH Data Management and Sharing Plan template.
