What is RefWorks?

RefWorks is a full-featured online research management, writing and collaboration tool you can use to collect, store, share and organize citations for multiple research papers and projects. You can use your RefWorks account to create bibliographies and manuscripts. RefWorks is available to all OSU students, faculty and staff, compliments of University Libraries.

The four main functions of a citation manager are:

  1. Collect references across multiple sources, including different databases, catalogs, websites, and more into one centralized account.
  2. Organize the references and your research by using folders, tags, and personal notes so that you can find what you are looking for.
  3. Collaborate with your colleagues by sharing folders.
  4. Cite your references according to a wide variety of style guides.**

**Always be sure to review the citations created by any reference manager.  They can do a lot of the work for you, but they can also still make mistakes.  Ultimately, you will be responsible for ensuring that the citations in your paper are accurate.**

RefWorks Tutorials

This video was created by the McGoogan Library of Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.  It illustrates the process of moving references you have located in PubMed into your RefWorks account.  A similar process can be used for any database which does not have a "Direct Export to RefWorks" option available.
