Welcome to the Clinical Nurse Specialist Virtual Bookshelf.

This guide is intended for clinical nurse specialists and provides helpful resources to support you in your professional work, EBP and research activities.  Most of the resources on this guide are found in the OSU Health Sciences Library.  

Users of this guide will:

• Understand the basics of the guidelines, policy and research concerning the profession of clinical nurse specialists.
• Become familiar with a variety of resources available for clinical nurse specialties, including library databases, print and electronic books.
• Learn about the importance of citations and different citation management tools.
• Know who to contact for additional help.

According to the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists,

"Clinical nurse specialists are advanced practice registered nurses who have graduate preparation (Master’s or Doctorate) in nursing. Like other advanced practice registered nurses, they are trained in advanced physiology, pharmacology and physical assessment in addition to their particular areas of specialty. They can diagnose, treat, prescribe and bill like other APRNs as allowed by their state regulations".
