There are many different definitions of Integrative or Complementary Medicine, and parsing the various terms in this broad field is difficult due to its changing nature. CAM is often described as a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not generally considered part of conventional, i.e. Western, medicine.
When used together with conventional medicine, CAM is considered "complementary medicine." Traditionally, "alternative medicine" refers to CAM used in place of conventional medicine.
